FRESH Art Deadline April 22

Summit Artspace Gallery is once again challenging area artists to flex their creative muscles in its annual juried exhibition called Fresh Art to be held April 30-June 5.  Artists who live, work or attend universities in Summit, Portage and Medina Counties are invited to submit works at the gallery on Thursday, April 22 from noon to 7 pm.  Applications forms and further details are available at www.summitartspace.org or by calling 330-376-8480.

Summa Foundation is sponsoring prizes of $500, $300 and $200 for the top three winners of this show of artworks created in the last 18 months reflecting novel thinking, original styles, different directions and new materials.  Only one entry is allowed per person, and works must be display ready.   There is a $10 entry fee.

This year’s judges are Clare Murray-Adams and John T. Adams.  Murray-Adams, a professor of art at Canton’s Malone University, is also an artist working in collage, mixed media construction, encaustic paint and fiber.  Her husband is a painter and sculptor.  The judges will select works to be included in the show plus prize winners.

Summit Artspace, a project of the Akron Area Arts Alliance in cooperation with Summit County government, is located in a historic building at 140 E. Market St., one block east of the Akron Art Museum.  This is the gallery’s sixth Fresh Art exhibit.  The show attracts artworks in a wide variety of media by young, emerging artists, arts educators and established artists.

The public is invited to a free meet-the-artists reception on Friday, April 30 from 5-7 pm, where the winners will be announced.
