Flower planters help make downtown Akron vibrant

Downtown Akron Partnership planted flowers in 40 downtown planters last weekend.

This week downtown Akron's sidewalks are a little more colorful thanks to Downtown Akron Partnership's planter program. Over the weekend staff and volunteers planted petunias and potato vines in 40 handcrafted sidewalk planters.

Downtown Akron Partnership's planter program serves to enhance the streetscape for downtown visitors and employees throughout the year. The planters are part of Operation Neat Streets program, which provides clean and safe services throughout the Special Improvement District.

Spencer Davis, a 2006 graduate of Firestone High School, has been hired to keep the flowers well-watered over the hot summer months. Davis, a student at The University of Akron, is no stranger to Downtown Akron Partnership. His singing group, Sound Up, performed at last year's First Night® Akron, the organization's family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year's Eve celebration of the arts.

Downtown Akron Partnership's mission is to promote and build a vibrant and valuable downtown.  To learn more about Downtown Akron Partnership and for a complete schedule of downtown events, visit www.downtownakron.com.
