Bartges Bridge to Close
The work has begun on the final leg of the Towpath Trail through Akron. Just off of South Main Street, work has begun to replace the Bartges Street Bridge over the Ohio and Erie Canal and to construct a pedestrian path linking the Towpath Trail between downtown Akron and Summit Lake.
With the bridge closure, traffic is being detoured via High and Thornton streets and Dart Avenue. Signs are posted with detour information.
The $3.3 million project of the City of Akron and the Ohio Department of Transportation will complete the final 1/3 mile of the recreational trail between the Spaghetti Warehouse (to the north) and the path just south of Bartges Street.
The work will be completed in the fall of 2011.
