This Thursday, March 10th, it's time for Film Club. The club will watch and discuss 1945's Detour at 6:30 p.m. at the Akron Art Museum. It's a brisk 68 minutes.
Roger Ebert said, "No one who has seen it has easily forgotten it." And it happens to be Errol Morris' favorite film, according to IMDb. It was directed by Edgar G. Ulmer and stars Tom Neal and Ann Savage.
Film Club, which is free and open to the public, is like a book club for movies. The club watches the movie once straight though, and then lets it play again while discussing the film, always ending up with a deeper appreciation. Check out the Facebook event.
Also, don’t miss the annual Akron Preview Party for the Cleveland International Film Festival next week. The free party will again take place at the Akron Civic Theater on Wednesday, March 16, 5:30pm. Guests will be able to pick up the new CIFF program guide there.
Stay tuned for information about the Film Club’s first workshop on game design, led by game developer Sam Marcus on March 26, 1:30 p.m. at the Akron Art Museum. Teams will sketch out the rules for an original game based around a theme, then play it to see if it works. Also watch for the announcement of the next filmmaking activity, which kicks off April 10!
