
The Holiday Market at Lock 3,sponsored by the Downtown Akron Partnership, quadruples in size this weekend with one-of-a-kind specialty food items, home-made baked goods and craft items for sale during the 5th Annual Winter Farmers Market in the basement of the old O’Neil’s Department Store building.
Fifteen growers and craft-food makers will join the nine other merchants who have been selling hand-made items from Lock 3's Chriskindl Cottages during this holiday season.
An additional fourteen craft booths plus the museum store at the Akron History Exhibit at Lock 3 will bring the total number of vendors to 37 this Saturday December 10, 11am - 5pm and Sunday, December 11, from 11am - 4pm.
“Everybody loves a farmers market,” says Dave Lieberth, Akron’s Deputy Mayor. “We’ve invited our fresh-food vendors from the summer to come back to Lock 3 this weekend to offer gifts that will fit those people who are especially hard to buy for.”
Included in the weekend market are these food vendors and growers:
Becker's Cottage Garden Herb Farm: Honey, jelly, herb vinegar, plants and soap.
Big Fat Greek & Italian Pastries: baklava, spinach pies, sweet & savory pumpkin rolls and date nut cakes
Buckeye Chocolates - Cinnamon roasted almonds, cashews, pecans, peanut brittle, funnel cakes, jumbo turtles
Hattie’s Café: Canned food items and gift baskets.
Mother Mae’s Chocolates - Homemade chocolate candies and other chocolate desserts.
Ms. Julie’s Kitchen- Fresh, local, organic and vegan, whole grain spelt nutrition-no white flour, no white sugar
Nectar of the Vine- Wine frappe mixes
The Olive Tap - Fresh selection of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars
The Charmed Kitchen- Bean soup mix, beer bread mix, herb blends, vinegar, cookbooks
TreeHouse Organics: Homemade preserves, honey, pasta sauces, salad dressings, maple syrup
Troutman Vineyards – Local wine. Samples and bottles

These vendors are in addition to the two bakers in the Chriskindl Cottages on Garden Alley: Highland Baking, which does authentic Scottish shortbread, and Homemade Delites, featuring their famous oatmeal-raisin-walnut cookies.

The American Toy & Marble Museum has a gift shop with marbles, marble jewelry, books, and DVD’s of Akron history.
Shoppers can get to the O’Neil’s basement area directly from the elevator lobby of the State Street parking deck, or the Grotto area of Lock 3.
The Winter Farmers Market is part of Holidayfest at Lock 3, 200 South Main Street in Downtown Akron. Holidayfest includes Ohio’s largest ice skating rink, “Reimndeer Run,” a 150-foot sledding hill, a concession stand featuring Akron’s own Thirsty Dog brews, and the Magical Train that takes passengers on a ride along the canal towpath and Lock 4. Akron’s Holiday Trolleys are also in service offering free rides around downtown during Holidayfest.
