Downtown Student Housing Welcomes Brubaker's Back

Mayor Don Plusquellic today welcomed back a well-known Akron area food and beverage operation to Downtown Akron, as Brubaker’s Pub opened to the public after a year-long absence.

The first space to open as part of Richland Properties $25 million development on South Main Street, Brubaker’s will open to the public Monday night at 9pm, and will stay open 365 days a year.

"We’re very pleased with the expression of confidence by Brubaker’s in this block of Downtown Akron," said Mayor Plusquellic. "They will be a great complement to the new student housing in this development as well."

Richland Properties will welcome approximately 140 students to apartment living in the development this August 22. The former Brubaker’s Pub - located in the same block for ten years - was demolished to make way for the newly constructed retail/apartment complex.

"We are excited about the development, about the growth of Downtown and the University, and the opportunities ahead of us," said Scott Brewer, who owns seven retail Brubaker’s Pubs in greater Akron along with his mother, Nancy Breen. "We’ve been part of the Akron area for 30 years, and we see a bright future for our operation in Downtown Akron."

The interior decor of Brubaker’s on South Main is reminiscent of an Irish Pub. Brewer says the Downtown store will have about 25 employees. Food service is offered at all hours the restaurant/bar is open, , 10:00am - 2:30am daily, and opening at noon on Sundays. (There are special hours on major holidays.)
