Downtown Akron Partnership ‘Kicks Off’ its Kickball Season Tonight

In conjunction with the GO: Get Out of the Office program, Downtown Akron Partnership has started a summer Downtown Akron Kickball League. Six teams, representing various businesses in Downtown and throughout Akron, have signed up to play in the league. Games start tonight at Lock 3 Park in Downtown Akron and continue every Thursday night through the playoffs on August 7.

"When I saw that the Downtown Akron Partnership was creating a kickball league, I was so excited to get my friends together and play,” said Dana Lobalzo- Saporito, team captain of the One Kick Wonders. “I love playing outdoors and being Downtown; what a unique opportunity this will be to enjoy both together."

Participants in the Downtown Akron Kickball League represent employers such as FirstMerit, SummaCare, First Energy, the University of Akron, H.C. Lobalzo & Sons and United Way. Each of the teams has been sponsored by Downtown Akron businesses including The Lockview, 69 Taps, Barley House and FirstMerit, who sponsored 3 teams.

If the Downtown Kickball League is successful, there are plans to expand the program next summer.
