Check out all of the independent artists and unique art at the Artwalk in Downtown Akron this Independence Day weekend! More than twenty participating galleries, restaurants and art spaces will showcase art, music, food and fun at the Artwalk in Downtown Akron on Saturday, July 2, 5-10 p.m.!
Created by the independent artists and galleries that participate, the Artwalk features one of a kind art and collectibles available for purchase as well as art openings, gallery shows, demonstrations and interactive art. The term "walk" is used loosely as "artwalkers" can enjoy riding from destination to destination on a trolley provided by the City of Akron. With so much to see and do, it's no surprise that the monthly Artwalk is becoming one of the hottest nights out in Akron!
Artwalk Must Sees in July...
Right Light Gallery and Millworks Gallery will be showing the first annual juried show Illuminate, showcasing Ohio visual artists, on view through July 24. At Millworks Gallery at 6 p.m. Jim Shirey, who won an honorable mention for his photographs of ice in nature will speak about his work. At 7 p.m. Stefanie Musgrave will talk about her ceramic installation Phylogenic Landscapes from her "Biodiversity Breeds Art" series. Don't miss a drawing activity with Kevin Smalley and Ron White at Red Light Gallery.
?At 43 Furnace in the Northside District visit Zeber-Martell Clay Studio and Gallery to view beautiful examples of fine contemporary craft by two local potters/designers featuring art for the table and decorative home accents in a rich, abstract style plus one-of-a-kind jewelry and more. Don't miss re-invented vintage items, jewelry and wearable art at the Kathleen Lucas-Walls Studio.

Check out the Altered Book Project at the Summit Artspace Gallery, on display through July 30, which showcases the creativity of 17 top Akron artists. Altered books are books that have been recycled and repurposed creating works of art by gluing, painting, collaging, rubber stamping, cutting, tearing & embellishing. They represent expressions of self, experiments in creativity and personal journals. Participating artists are: Claudia Berlinski, Bradley Hart, Cheryl Shepherd, Daniel Coffield, Emily Vigil, Ingrid Westberg, John Reddington, Mark Keffer, Tom Webb, Beth Lindenberger, Charles Beneke, Christopher Hoot, Donna Webb, Hui-Chu Ying, James Lenavitt, Kate Budd & M.M. Palmer.
The third floor of Summit Artspace is a unique working environment and gallery space for independent artists including Connie Bloom, Terry Klausman, Carolyn Lewis, Cari Miller, Katina Pastis Radwanski and art collectives Artists of Rubber City (AoRC) and Akron Society of Artists.
Don't miss "Shared Perceptions," collage and assemblage by Marcia Mazak and Bret Hines, and "Unpredictable," ceramics by Sharon Wagner at Artists of Rubber City (AoRC) BOX Gallery.
At the Terry Klausman Studio and Gallery, Terry has decided to put down his welder and pick up his pencils for some new creations this month. The subject matter is still sculptural. However, his skillful use of line, shape and color offer a fresh look into the mind of this prolific artist.

The Carolyn Lewis Gallery features beautiful paintings. Stop up to visit Carolyn with a live demo from 5-9 p.m. Children are welcome to create works on an easel.
At Katina Pastis Radwanski Studio/Gallery stop by from 5-8:30 p.m. to see Katina's newest paintings and sculpture plus win a free matted print.
Connie Bloom's Quilting Arts Studio and Gallery features whimsical and intricate abstract art quilts, landscapes and ecology pieces made from hand dyed and hand painted or recycled cloth. Extensive free motion work rewards close up viewing.

We Gallery will host an opening for Sara Hayes, an oil painter who graduated from CIA. Don't miss the chance to see how Sara's work has progressed since her last show at We Gallery!

Stop by Maiden Lane and check out trendy looks for the chic chick at NOTO, open until 8 p.m. and enjoy live music by Josiah Wolf at 8 p.m. at Musica for only $8.
Kiraly Fencing Academy Art & Antiques features beautiful antique art and weaponry in a must see location. Open 6-9 p.m.
Don't forget to stop by Ages Tribal Art Gallery, specializing in authentic artifacts, masks, statues and tribal art decor from around the world, as well as fossilized ivory carvings and pendants, antique items, sacred tribal and spiritual artifacts. This location will not be on the trolley route this evening, but please stop by on your way to or from the Artwalk!
For a bite to eat during the Artwalk, stop by the new and improved Urban Eats...A Pop Art Cafe!, Stew Pot Kitchen, Crave, Luigi's or Vegiterranean. Try the new menu at Northside Bar and Grill, and enjoy music by Verve Daddy at 9 p.m.
Map, Trolley and Parking Information
An Artwalk Map is available on the Trolley and at participating Artwalk locations. The Artwalk Map and additional information can also be found at www.downtownakron.com/artwalk.
Guests can hop aboard the red trolley that circulates the route at any of the Artwalk venues, or just give a friendly wave and the driver will stop. Gallery spaces are open between 5-10 p.m. with opening and closing hours fluctuating at each gallery.
To best enjoy the Artwalk experience, free parking is available at Northside (near Luigi's), in the lot across from Summit Artspace between Broadway and Summit streets, and in the High/Market Street Parking Deck.
