
The Main Event, an author series featuring prominent voices from the worlds of literature, the arts, politics and journalism, resumes with NYT best-selling author Gary Shtenyngart (pronounced: Stein-gart) Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Main Library Auditorium, 60 S. High St., Akron.
Gary Shteyngart was born in Leningrad in 1972 and came to the United States seven years later. His first novel, “The Russian Debutante’s Handbook,” won the Stephen Crane Award for First Fiction and the National Jewish Book Award for Fiction. It was also named a New York Times Notable Book, a best book of the year by The Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, and has been translated into ten languages.
His second novel, “Absurdistan,” was a national bestseller, named one of the 10 Best Books of the Year by The New York Times Book Review and also Time magazine. His newest novel “Super Sad True Love Story” is an instant New York Times bestseller.

The series is presented by the Akron-Summit County Public Library and Friends of Main Library. The series is free and open to the public. Friends members receive preferred seating. Auditorium doors open at 6:30 p.m. Parking in the High/Market St. deck is free for those arriving after 6 p.m.
