August Sunday Sampler Features Free Art Events In Downtown Akron

The Akron Art Museum teams up with the Akron-Summit County Public Library and Summit Artspace for a day of free family events during August’s Sunday Sampler.

At the Akron Art Museum, open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., enjoy free gallery admission, including admission to the special exhibitions Detroit Disassembled: Photographs by Andrew Moore and Arctic Re-visions: Isaac Julien’s True North, in addition to the following free activity:
* Lock 3 Summer Arts Experience Dance Program, 2 p.m.
Come enjoy a performance of art in motion! Talented high school students participating in the City of Akron’s Lock 3 Summer Arts Experience will perform an original dance choreographed by Kelli Sanford, this year’s Lead Artist in Dance, based on the concepts of WATER, AIR and LAND.

The Akron-Summit County Public Library will be open from 1 – 5 p.m. In the Special Collections Department, the Getting Started in Family History exhibit will be on display. There will also be Crafts to Go in the 3rd floor Teen Division, as well as Story Time Sampler in the Children’s Library at 2 pm.
 
Summit Artspace will be open from 11 am to 5 pm and will feature an exhibition of paintings and artwork by Women’s Art League of Akron members. Register to win a painting donated by a well-known artist with proceeds going to the WAL Scholarship Fund. Artists Candace Bennington and Barbara Johns  will also present demonstrations of pastel and watercolor from 1 – 3 pm.
