Practice makes perfect and for 80 years members of the Akron Society of Artists have been perfecting their talents by gathering for regular demonstrations, lectures, critiques and studio sessions.  The public is invited to enjoy works by some of this area’s finest traditional painters and portrait artists when Summit Artspace Gallery presents the Akron Society of Artists’ 80th Anniversary Members Show October 1 through November 6.  There is also a free meet-the-artists opening reception Friday, September 30 from 5 to 7 pm.

Founded in 1931, ASA has 133 members who hold painting sessions in their collaborative studio on the third floor of Summit Artspace.  Its mission is to advance the skill, knowledge and appreciation of art among its members and the general public; to encourage the advancement and understanding of art in the community and to afford financial assistance and encouragement to worthy art students.

ASA will also present free demonstrations during upcoming Sunday Samplers, which are free collaborative arts events hosted with the Akron Art Museum and Akron-Summit County Library.  People are asked to register for the demos by emailing studio@akronsocietyofartists.com.  Dates are:
