The Akron Cycling Festival will make its debut Saturday, August 1st, in downtown Akron. Events will include a criterium race, a self-guided tour along the Akron Marathon’s blue line, a trail and rail event with the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, and an art walk.
The criterium race has been coined the “Rubber City Meltdown.” There will be 4 classes racing a one-mile, closed circuit course near the Northside. Category 2-3 riders, the experts of the bunch, begin their 60-minute race at 11:45 a.m.
The Blue Line Tour follows the Akron Marathon’s painted blue line through the streets of downtown Akron as well as a section of the Towpath Trail, making a winding, scenic 23.5-mile course. A detailed map with directions will be provided at registration.
The Trail to Rail Ride is a family adventure down the Towpath Trail to Peninsula and back on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to the Northside neighborhood. Check the event’s website for details on the train schedule.
Pre-registration ends July 24. For more information, visit www.rubbercitymeltdown.com.
