The Personnel Department of the City of Akron is responsible for providing a comprehensive human resources system for all City employees and related agencies. The Personnel Director is accountable to a three member Civil Service Commission and responsible for a staff of 19 employees and a budget of $1.5 million. The scope of responsibilities include employment (recruitment and selection), compensation (job evaluation and job classification), employee records (leave and payroll certification), and employee training (skill and supervisory training). In addition, the Personnel Department has to ensure the City of Akron is in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing human resource issues.
