From Kehinde Wiley to Mark Bradford and iona rozeal brown, many of the artists featured in Pattern ID are inspired by hip-hop culture and find ways to incorporate it into their artwork. Yet the same counter culture movement often discriminates against women, gays and other groups that these artists associate themselves with.
An official selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, this film provides a riveting examination of representations of manhood in hip-hop culture, featuring interviews with hip-hop celebrities such as Russell Simmons, Chuck D, Mos Def and Busta Rhymes. The screening is FREE with first-come, first serve seating available in the auditorium.
