Congratulations to the winners of the 2013 Akron Art Prize sponsored by the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation. Winners were announced Oct. 5 at the finale celebration at the Akron Art Museum.
First Place: Christopher Kovacevich, "Me, In Lipstick" - receives $5,000 and the honor of displaying his winning artwork at the Akron Art Museum from Oct. 7-20. Be sure to attend Christopher's Artist Meet and Greet on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 7-9 p.m. This is part of the museum's Free Thursday event.
Runners up each receive $1,000
1st runner up: Brian Parsons, "together"
2nd runner up: Michael W. Marras, "Back to Woodruff'
3rd runner up: Carol Tomasik, "Starboard Ferry"
4th runner up: Tom Baldwin, "eastern screech owl gray"
5th runner up: Ron White, "Family prosperity and GMOs"

More than 120 artists competed for $10,000 in cash prizes with the public casting votes (up to 10 votes per person) via text messaging and tablet kiosks in four Downtown art galleries and studios. A total of 3,125 votes were cast during the 29 days of the competition. Thank you to all who participated, visited the galleries - and voted!
